Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor has ruled out the possibility of joining any political alliance following his landmark victory in the Bankipur Assembly bypoll, asserting that his party’s only alliance will be with the people of Bihar. The former election strategist also claimed that his win was made possible by support from dissatisfied voters across the BJP, Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
Speaking to reporters after defeating BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar by more than 19,000 votes, Kishor described the result as a sign of growing public dissatisfaction with established political parties.
“We shall have no alliance. Our alliance shall be with the people of Bihar,” Kishor said, reiterating that Jan Suraaj would continue to contest elections independently rather than entering into pre-poll or post-poll alliances.
Claims Support Across Party Lines
Kishor thanked Jan Suraaj workers and supporters while claiming that many voters from the BJP, Congress and RJD backed his candidature despite remaining affiliated with their respective parties.
According to him, the bypoll result reflects the desire for political change among voters who have become disillusioned with traditional political formations in Bihar.
Victory Marks Jan Suraaj’s Entry into Bihar Assembly
The Bankipur victory gives Jan Suraaj Party its first-ever representation in the Bihar Legislative Assembly. Kishor’s party had failed to win any seats in the previous Assembly elections, making the bypoll triumph a significant milestone for the fledgling political outfit.
Kishor said he would focus on improving civic infrastructure and governance in Bankipur instead of making unrealistic promises, adding that residents would begin to see tangible changes within the next few months.
Targets Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary
The Jan Suraaj chief maintained that the electoral verdict was primarily directed against Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, alleging that educated voters were unhappy with the state’s political leadership.
He also described the result as a warning for the BJP ahead of future elections, arguing that even traditional strongholds can no longer be taken for granted.
Gen Z Protests May Have Influenced Voter Sentiment
Kishor suggested that recent Gen Z-led protests across Bihar may have influenced public sentiment, although he acknowledged that voter turnout in Bankipur remained below 35%, indicating that young voters did not participate in large numbers.
Political observers believe the bypoll result could reshape the political narrative in Bihar ahead of the next Assembly elections, with opposition parties portraying the outcome as evidence of shifting voter preferences.
While the BJP congratulated Kishor on his victory, several opposition leaders described the result as a setback for the ruling party and an indication of growing anti-incumbency sentiment.
