Delhi Red Fort security: The Delhi Police has put in place an extensive multi-layered security arrangement at and around the Red Fort ahead of the Independence Day celebrations on August 15, 2026.
The security plan combines a large deployment of personnel with advanced surveillance technology, including more than 1,000 CCTV cameras, facial recognition systems, number plate recognition and anti-drone technology.
20,000 Security Personnel to Be Deployed
According to DCP North Raja Banthia, around 15,000 to 20,000 security personnel from multiple agencies will be deployed at and around the Red Fort.
The deployment will include personnel from the Delhi Police Traffic Unit, North District, local police, PCR, Special Branch and Special Cell, along with other security teams.
Several paramilitary companies, commandos and NSG teams will also be deployed as part of the security arrangements.
Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs), snipers and specialised teams will be positioned at strategic locations, including watchtowers, to respond rapidly to any security threat.
Over 1,000 CCTV Cameras Installed
Technology will form a major part of the security arrangements this year.
More than 1,000 CCTV cameras have reportedly been installed across the Red Fort and surrounding areas. Dedicated control rooms will monitor the camera feeds, with trained personnel tasked with identifying and responding to potential threats.
The surveillance network will also use advanced video analytics, including:
- Facial Recognition Systems (FRS)
- Automatic number plate recognition
- Intrusion detection systems
- Body-worn cameras
- Real-time CCTV monitoring
Authorities said these technologies will be deployed at different locations depending on security requirements.
Anti-Drone Systems Put in Place
The Delhi Police has also deployed anti-drone technology around the Red Fort to detect and counter potential threats from unmanned aerial vehicles.
With the Independence Day celebrations expected to draw significant attention, authorities are maintaining heightened surveillance over the area.
Police officials also said online social media activity is being monitored as part of the overall security strategy.
NDRF Team to Handle Emergencies
A team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) will also be stationed in the area to respond to emergencies.
Authorities said security personnel have completed their briefings and training sessions and that response teams have been positioned at designated points for quick action.
DCP Raja Banthia said the security arrangements cover both human deployment and technological measures and that authorities are prepared for the Independence Day event.
IAF Band to Perform at National War Memorial
Meanwhile, an Indian Air Force band is scheduled to hold a special musical performance at the Public Plaza near Param Yodha Sthal at the National War Memorial in New Delhi.
The Ministry of Defence said the programme is aimed at promoting national pride and public participation as part of the Independence Day commemorations.
The performance will feature 40 musicians, including 32 Airmen and eight Agniveervayu personnel. The contingent will also include three women.
The programme will be led by Master Warrant Officer A Srihari as principal conductor, with Junior Warrant Officers Moon Deka and Abhishek Paul and Sergeant NT Singh assisting him.
The event will also mark 150 years of Vande Mataram, adding a special commemorative element to this year’s Independence Day celebrations.
