Meta Platforms announced on Tuesday that WhatsApp will roll out a new translation feature to help its over 3 billion users communicate across languages more easily.
Initially, translations will support six languages on Android devices and 19 languages on iPhones, with plans to add more in the future.
Meta emphasized that privacy is maintained, as all translations occur on users’ devices, meaning WhatsApp cannot access the content of the messages.
To use the feature, users can long-press a message and select “Translate” to view it in another language. The feature works across personal chats, group conversations, and channel updates. Additionally, Android users have the option to enable automatic translation for entire chat threads, allowing future messages to be translated by default.
