Music entertainment giant Warner Music India has acquired a minority stake in Global Music Junction (GMJ), a subsidiary of digital entertainment and technology firm JetSynthesys.
Warner Music India has purchased a 26 percent stake in GMJ and has secured a seat on the board of Global Music Junction, according to sources familiar with the matter. Although the exact details of the minority stake acquisition were not disclosed in the official statement.
The collaboration between the two companies began with a distribution deal in 2021. With this latest development, Warner Music India aims to solidify its position as the dominant player in the central Indian music market.
JetSynthesys, through its music entertainment division, has been making strides in the Indian vernacular music market. GMJ boasts a diverse portfolio with content available in languages such as Bhojpuri, Haryanvi, Oriya, Kannada, and Gujarati. The company has amassed over 250 million subscribers and delivers more than 100 billion minutes of entertainment annually through a vast library of over 130,000 pieces of audio-visual music content.
JetSynthesys, backed by prominent investors including Kris Gopalakrishnan, Adar Poonawalla, Sachin Tendulkar, and various business conglomerates, has successfully tapped into the Gen Z consumer base across India’s smaller cities through gaming and esports. Leveraging this overlap with its music audience, the company sees promising opportunities in the Indian market.
According to Rajan Navani, CEO and founder of JetSynthesys, Warner Music’s investment in GMJ and ongoing collaboration will accelerate the expansion of India’s regional music industry. The partnership aims to meet the growing demand for music and entertainment by leveraging their collective vision and understanding of audience preferences.
With Warner Music India’s extensive roster of global artists and deep industry experience, GMJ expects to gain valuable insights and resources. Warner’s involvement will introduce new global best practices to GMJ, enhancing its operational efficiency and strategic direction.
