The Union Cabinet has approved the expansion of the Delhi Metro under Phase V (A), introducing three new corridors spanning 16.076 km with 13 stations—10 underground and 3 elevated.
New Routes and Key Details:
- R.K. Ashram Marg – Indraprastha (9.913 km) – Extension of the Botanical Garden-R.K. Ashram Marg corridor, linking Central Vista. Stations: R.K Ashram Marg, Shivaji Stadium, Central Secretariat, Kartavya Bhawan, India Gate, War Memorial-High Court, Baroda House, Bharat Mandapam, Indraprastha.
- Aerocity – IGD Airport Terminal 1 (2.263 km) – Boosts airport connectivity to southern Delhi.
- Tughlakabad – Kalindi Kunj (3.9 km) – Connects Tughlakabad, Saket, Kalindi Kunj; stations include Sarita Vihar Depot, Madanpur Khadar, Kalindi Kunj.
The Central Vista corridor will provide seamless access to all Kartavya Bhawans, benefiting around 60,000 employees and nearly 2 lakh visitors daily, while reducing pollution and dependence on fossil fuels.
This approval coincides with Delhi Metro’s 23rd anniversary. Currently, the metro network spans over 352 km with 257 stations across ten lines. Recently, DMRC received the ICI Awards 2025 for the Maujpur-Majlis Park corridor under “Outstanding Prestressed Concrete Structure in the Country,” marking India’s first circular ring metro line upon completion.
