Television manufacturers in India have announced price reductions ranging from ₹2,500 to ₹85,000 to pass on the benefits of the recent GST cut to consumers, aiming for strong sales during the upcoming festive season starting Monday, September 22.
The GST Council earlier this month reduced tax rates on several goods and services, lowering the duty on TVs with screens larger than 32 inches from 28% to 18%. TV makers are adjusting MRPs accordingly to extend the 10% tax reduction benefit to buyers.
The TV industry, which saw almost flat sales in the first half of this fiscal year (April–September), expects a surge in festive-season demand. Manufacturers anticipate that consumers may also upgrade to larger screens and higher-spec models, thanks to savings from reduced prices. Sales of bundled products such as soundbars and party speakers are also expected to rise, with high double-digit growth projected.
Company-specific price cuts include:
- Sony India: Bravia models reduced by ₹5,000–₹71,000. For example, the 43-inch BRAVIA 2 drops from ₹59,900 to ₹54,900; 55-inch BRAVIA 7 from ₹2.30 lakh to ₹2.50 lakh; and the top-end 98-inch BRAVIA 5 from ₹9 lakh to ₹8.29 lakh.
- LG Electronics India: Prices cut by ₹2,500–₹85,800. The 43-inch model now costs ₹28,490 (down from ₹30,990), while 55-inch and 65-inch models are reduced by ₹3,400 to ₹42,990 and ₹68,490 respectively. The 100-inch TV is now ₹4,99,790, down from ₹5,85,590.
- Panasonic India: Price cuts range from ₹3,000–₹32,000. The 43-inch models now range from ₹33,990 to ₹54,290 (down from ₹36,990–₹58,990), 55-inch models reduced by ₹7,000 to ₹65,990–₹76,990, the 65-inch model to ₹2.94 lakh (from ₹3.20 lakh), and the 75-inch top-end model to ₹3.68 lakh (from ₹4 lakh).
With these adjustments, manufacturers hope to boost festive-season sales, attract buyers to premium models, and stimulate growth in ancillary product segments.
