On Tuesday, a Reddit user alleged that they were suspended from Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India’s largest IT services company, after reporting a security incident. Despite the company’s policy stating that “no action can be taken against whistleblowers,” the user claimed to have received a suspension notice.
According to the post on a social media platform, the user reported a security incident at TCS where their manager allegedly mandated employees to use personal laptops and share login credentials. Expressing frustration, the user sought advice on how to proceed, noting the unhelpful response from HR and managers due to strained relations.
The post garnered 293 comments, with suggestions ranging from sharing the incident on LinkedIn and tagging higher authorities to collecting an experience letter and seeking employment elsewhere. Some speculated that TCS might justify the suspension as a consequence of violating company policies rather than retaliation against whistleblowing.
Encouragement was given to escalate the matter to TCS’s ethics committee, with reassurances that they would investigate. In response to comments, the Reddit user claimed to have emailed higher officials, who allegedly blamed them for various infractions, including sharing client credentials and using personal devices for work-related purposes.
In a separate incident in 2023, TCS terminated six employees for accepting favors from staffing firms during the hiring of contractual workers.
