A group of seasoned American professionals has lodged accusations against Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) for allegedly engaging in unlawful discrimination based on their race and age, as per a report by the Wall Street Journal citing complaints filed with the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
The report suggests that TCS purportedly terminated their employment and outsourced some of their tasks to lower-paid Indian immigrants holding temporary work visas. Since late December, at least 22 individuals have reportedly filed complaints against TCS with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. TCS boasts clients among the largest corporations in the US.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the complainants, who are former TCS employees, include individuals of Caucasian, Asian-American, and Hispanic-American backgrounds, ranging from their 40s to their 60s and residing in over a dozen US states. Many of them hold advanced degrees such as Masters of Business Administration. The professionals allege, based on their complaints reviewed by the WSJ, that TCS displayed favoritism towards Indian workers in the US holding coveted visas.
In response, a TCS spokesperson has vehemently denied these allegations, labeling them as baseless and misleading. The spokesperson asserts that TCS maintains a solid track record as an equal opportunity employer in the US and conducts its operations with integrity.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, headquartered in Washington, DC, is tasked with enforcing federal laws prohibiting workplace discrimination. While the commission has the authority to pursue federal charges against violators of these laws, a spokesperson declined to comment on any specific case due to confidentiality protocols.
