On May 10, the Supreme Court is set to announce its verdict on the interim bail plea of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with a money laundering case linked to the excise policy scam. Kejriwal, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21, is currently held in Tihar Jail under judicial custody.
Earlier, on May 7, the apex court reserved its order on Kejriwal’s bail plea, expressing concerns over him resuming official duties if granted interim bail. The court emphasized that Kejriwal should refrain from carrying out any governmental responsibilities if released temporarily.
During the hearing, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, leading the bench, stated that the court would pronounce the interim order on Friday, also addressing the main matter related to the challenge of Kejriwal’s arrest on the same day.
Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Kejriwal, assured the court that Kejriwal would abstain from signing any documents regarding the excise policy case. Singhvi further mentioned that Kejriwal would refrain from signing official documents upon release on bail, provided that the Delhi Lieutenant Governor does not reject them solely because of Kejriwal’s absence.
Additionally, the court extended Kejriwal’s judicial custody until May 20, as ruled by a Delhi court on the same day.
