The Indian stock market will remain closed for trading on Thursday, December 25, on account of Christmas, as per the holiday calendar issued by the stock exchanges.
Both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will be shut for the day, with normal trading resuming on Friday, December 26, 2025. This is the only stock market holiday in December and the final trading holiday for the year.
The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will also remain closed during the morning session on December 25 but will reopen for the evening session starting at 5:00 pm.
Following the Christmas holiday, the next stock market holiday will fall in the new year. According to the 2026 holiday calendar, Indian stock markets will be closed on January 26, 2026, in observance of Republic Day.
The holiday comes amid a subdued market environment, with investors showing limited activity due to a lack of fresh triggers and a growing focus on positioning for the upcoming year. In 2025 so far, benchmark indices such as the Sensex and Nifty have gained around 10 percent, while broader indices including the Nifty Midcap and Nifty Smallcap have lagged behind.
As the year draws to a close, market participants are increasingly looking beyond short-term movements and assessing longer-term trends, with attention shifting toward earnings visibility, macroeconomic stability, and valuation comfort across segments of the market.
