Shimla, a charming town nestled in the picturesque landscapes of Himachal Pradesh, has once again been blanketed with fresh snowfall. Every year, Shimla transforms into a magical winter wonderland, surrounded by majestic mountains, and this year is no exception.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), light to moderate rainfall or snowfall is forecasted for parts of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand today. This wet weather pattern extends southward, with similar predictions for various areas across Delhi, Punjab, and West Uttar Pradesh.
The IMD has specifically predicted light to moderate rain or snowfall in certain areas of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh for March 3rd, with similar conditions expected in isolated locations on March 4th.
Meanwhile, NHAI authorities have intensified efforts to resume traffic movement on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, following improvements in the weather on March 3rd morning.
Additionally, the India Meteorological Department has forecasted a warmer summer with more heatwave days this year, owing to the continuation of El Nino conditions at least until May. Above-normal rainfall is expected in March, along with above-normal maximum and minimum temperatures in most parts of the country from March to May.
The closure of the 270-km Jammu-Srinagar highway, the sole all-weather link connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country, persisted for the second day due to landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones triggered by heavy rainfall. Efforts are underway to restore traffic flow, with the NHAI working to expedite the reopening of the highway.
As weather conditions improve, the traffic department advises against traveling on the highway until restoration work is complete.
