Shankh Air, India’s newest airline, owned by Shankh Aviation Private Limited, has received approval from the Union Civil Aviation Ministry to commence operations. The airline has been issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC), valid for three years.
Before launching its flights, Shankh Air will also need clearance from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). According to the company’s website, Shankh Air will be the first scheduled airline to launch from Uttar Pradesh, with hubs in Lucknow and Noida, connecting major cities across India.
Shankh Aviation, led by chairman Sharvan Kumar Vishwakarma, is currently in advanced talks with global aircraft lessors and plans to make official announcements soon. The airline aims to operate both inter- and intra-state routes, focusing on cities with high demand but limited direct flight options.
Positioning itself as a full-service airline, Shankh Air promises competitive pricing, reliability, and a focus on passenger comfort. The airline plans to launch its services with a fleet of Boeing 737-800NG narrow-body aircraft.
In June, Vishwakarma met with Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu to discuss the strategic direction of the airline. The Civil Aviation Ministry, in its approval letter, emphasized that Shankh Air must adhere to regulations concerning foreign direct investment (FDI) and the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
Earlier this year, the airline’s management met with the leadership of Noida International Airport to explore partnerships, further strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s push to improve air connectivity.
