Two terrorists were killed by security forces on Wednesday in ongoing clashes in the forested area of Doda district, Jammu and Kashmir, police officials reported.
The intensified search and cordon operation by police, Army, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) followed twin terrorist attacks in the district on June 11 and 12. A gunfight erupted around 9:50 am in Bajaad village, Gandoh area, resulting in casualties among both security personnel and militants.
Six security personnel were injured in an attack on a joint check post at Chattargalla on June 11, while another skirmish with militants at Kota top in Gandoh left a policeman wounded the following day.
In response to these incidents, security forces escalated anti-terrorism efforts and announced a cash reward of Rs 5 lakhs each for four Pakistani terrorists suspected to have infiltrated and operating in the district.
The militants were reportedly holed up in a “dhok,” a mud house, in Sinoo panchayat when the operation commenced. One terrorist was killed when he emerged from the hideout and engaged the search parties in gunfire.
As of the latest updates, the firefight was ongoing, with surveillance support provided by an Army helicopter observed in the area, according to officials.
Additionally, security forces discovered a Chinese hand grenade in Pind village, Chingus area, Rajouri district. The device was reportedly found by a patrolling party late Tuesday night.
