A video showing a Russian cargo plane flying unusually low over high-rise apartments in a Moscow suburb amid Ukrainian drone attacks has gone viral.
According to BBC, Russian media reported multiple drone alerts that led to halted flights and the temporary closure of Sheremetyevo Airport, located north of Moscow. Verified footage shows an Antonov AN-124 Ruslan cargo plane flying east, away from Vnukovo International Airport, about 6 km (3.7 miles) west of the city. The Antonov-124 is a massive aircraft, measuring 226 feet in length, with a wingspan of 240 feet and a weight of 450 tons.
Reports from Express US stated that the incident occurred as swarms of Ukrainian kamikaze drones struck Moscow overnight and into Tuesday morning, causing flight disruptions.
Russian outlet SHOT noted that the Antonov-124 pilot deliberately flew at a low altitude to avoid UAVs in the sky. “Residents of New Moscow heard a loud roar and were startled when they saw the plane flying over their homes,” the report said.
Social media footage captured the enormous aircraft skimming rooftops and passing close to residential towers, producing a metallic roar that echoed through the neighborhood. The Sun reported that Russian air defenses scrambled to intercept the incoming drones in one of the largest attacks on Moscow since the beginning of the war.
