Yoga guru Ramdev and his associate Shri Balakrishna appeared before the Supreme Court on Tuesday in the Patanjali Ayurved “misleading advertisements” case. The court rebuked them for disregarding its orders, cautioning Ramdev to be prepared for consequences. During the previous hearing, the court had directed Ramdev and Balkrishna to personally appear in court on Tuesday.
Apology Issued by Patanjali
Following the hearing, Patanjali expressed regret to the court, stating that its aim was merely to encourage healthier living through its products. On February 27, the Supreme Court instructed the company to immediately halt all internet and print advertisements containing false information.
Supreme Court Criticizes Government
The Supreme Court also criticized the government for inaction, accusing them of negligence. The bench strongly criticized the government, stating that they appeared to be neglecting their responsibilities and urged swift action.
Controversy Over Misleading Ads
The dispute arose in November last year when the Supreme Court cautioned Patanjali Ayurved against making false and misleading statements in its product advertisements. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) highlighted various commercials allegedly portraying allopathy and doctors negatively, accusing them of misleading the public. These ads allegedly suggested that medical professionals were dying despite using modern medicines.
