President Droupadi Murmu has appointed six new governors and reshuffled three others, as per a communique from Rashtrapati Bhavan released on Saturday night. The changes will take effect when the new appointees assume their respective offices.
Assam and Manipur:
Lakshman Prasad Acharya, the current governor of Sikkim, has been appointed as the governor of Assam and will also handle the additional charge of Manipur. He replaces Anusuiya Uikye, who had been serving as the governor of Manipur since February of last year.
Punjab:
Banwarilal Purohit, the former governor of Punjab and Chandigarh, has been succeeded by Gulab Chand Kataria, who will also serve as the administrator of Chandigarh.
Sikkim:
Veteran BJP leader Om Prakash Mathur has been appointed as the new governor of Sikkim.
Maharashtra:
C P Radhakrishnan, the governor of Jharkhand, has been appointed as the new governor of Maharashtra, replacing Ramesh Bais. C P Radhakrishnan has also been handling Telangana.
Jharkhand:
Former Union Labour and Employment Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar will succeed C P Radhakrishnan as the governor of Jharkhand.
Telangana:
Jishnu Dev Varma, a former Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura, has been appointed as the new governor of Telangana.
Puducherry:
Former IAS officer K Kailashnathan, a close aide to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been appointed as the Lt Governor of Puducherry.
Chhattisgarh:
Ramen Deka, a former Lok Sabha member from Assam, will assume the role of governor of Chhattisgarh.
Meghalaya:
C H Vijayashankar, a former Lok Sabha member from Mysore in Karnataka, will serve as the governor of Meghalaya.
