Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a four-day official visit to Japan and China starting August 29, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Friday.
Japan Visit: August 29-30
PM Modi will be in Japan on August 29 and 30 to participate in the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit, at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. This will mark Modi’s eighth visit to Japan and his first summit with PM Ishiba.
During the visit, both leaders are expected to review the Special Strategic and Global Partnership between India and Japan, covering key areas such as defense and security, trade and economy, technology and innovation, and people-to-people exchanges. Discussions will also focus on regional and global issues, further strengthening the longstanding friendship between the two nations.
China Visit: August 31 – September 1
In the second leg of his tour, PM Modi will travel to China at the invitation of President Xi Jinping to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin. On the sidelines, he is expected to hold bilateral meetings with several world leaders attending the summit.
India has been an SCO member since 2017 and held the presidency of the Council of Heads of State during 2022-23. Ahead of the summit, PM Modi held talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in New Delhi, addressing border stability, bilateral relations, and regional cooperation, signaling a cautious reset in India-China ties after the 2020 border clashes.
This diplomatic tour underscores India’s proactive engagement in strategic partnerships in Asia, strengthening regional stability and global cooperation.
