Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday commended President Droupadi Murmu for her “thoughtful” address to the nation on the eve of India’s 79th Independence Day, praising her focus on the country’s collective progress, economic growth, and vision for the future.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi wrote:
“On the eve of our Independence Day, Rashtrapati Ji delivered a thoughtful address highlighting the collective progress of our nation and the opportunities ahead. She reminded us of the sacrifices that secured our freedom and urged every citizen to contribute towards nation-building.”
President Murmu’s Address: Key Highlights
In her national address, President Murmu extended heartfelt greetings to all citizens, noting that Independence Day and Republic Day are celebrated by every Indian with “immense enthusiasm and pride.”
She remembered the horrors of the 1947 Partition, urging people never to forget the pain and violence that marked that period, and paid tributes to the victims on Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas (Partition Horrors Remembrance Day).
India’s Economic Growth and Self-Reliance
Highlighting India’s journey since 1947, President Murmu noted the nation’s 6.5% GDP growth rate, controlled inflation, and rising exports as indicators of a strong and healthy economy.
“After the long years of foreign rule, India was in utter poverty at the time of Independence. In the 78 years since, we have made remarkable progress in every field. India is well on the path to becoming a self-reliant nation and is moving ahead with great confidence,” she said.
She urged citizens to strengthen the Swadeshi Movement by buying and using Indian-made products, aligning with initiatives like Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan.
Tribute to Armed Forces – Operation Sindoor
The President also saluted the armed forces for their courage during Operation Sindoor, conducted in retaliation for the “cowardly and inhuman” Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. She said the operation would be remembered as a historic example of humanity’s fight against terrorism.
