The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the NEET UG Result 2024 on their official website https://exams.nta.ac.in/NEET/. Among the candidates who achieved a perfect score of 720/720 in the 2024 NEET-UG results, 67 candidates attained this feat. However, it’s noteworthy that 44 of these candidates reached the top scores due to an unexpected twist. They received “grace marks” for answering a basic physics question incorrectly. This erroneous answer was influenced by a mistaken reference in their old Class 12 NCERT science textbook.
This marks an ironic turn of events as the incorrect response led to the candidates being awarded additional marks. Notably, in previous years, there was a single topper each in 2019 and 2020, three toppers in 2021, one topper in 2022, and two toppers in 2023.
A multiple-choice question in Physics regarding atoms emerged as a significant scoring opportunity for many students this year. The question was centered around two statements. According to an IndianExpress report, the first statement claimed, “Atoms are electrically neutral as they contain equal numbers of positive and negative charges.” The second statement stated, “Atoms of each element are stable and emit their characteristic spectrum.”
Candidates were tasked with selecting the “most appropriate answer” from four options:
- The first statement is correct, but the second is incorrect.
- The first statement is incorrect, but the second is correct.
- Both the first and second statements are correct.
- Both statements are incorrect.
