The National Testing Agency (NTA) has cancelled the UGC-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) following concerns about the exam’s integrity.
The NTA conducted the UGC-NET in 83 subjects in OMR (pen and paper) mode on June 18, with two shifts across various cities in India.
In a statement released late Wednesday night, the Ministry of Education announced that a new examination would be scheduled, with details to be provided later. Additionally, the matter is being handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a thorough investigation.
Ensuring Transparency
On June 19, the University Grants Commission (UGC) received inputs from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), under the Ministry of Home Affairs. These inputs suggested that the integrity of the examination might have been compromised.
To maintain the highest level of transparency and the sanctity of the examination process, the Ministry of Education has decided to cancel the UGC-NET June 2024 examination. A fresh examination will be conducted, with further information to be shared separately. The matter is being handed over to the CBI for a thorough investigation.
This year, 11,21,225 candidates registered for the test, which determines eligibility for assistant professor positions and junior research fellowships in Indian universities and colleges. A total of 9,08,580 candidates appeared for the exam.
