The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has updated the quantity freeze limits for index derivatives, effective September 1, 2025, as per a circular issued on August 29.
Key changes:
- Bank Nifty: 900 (up from 600)
- Nifty 50: 1,800 (unchanged)
- Finnifty: 1,800 (unchanged)
- Nifty Midcap Select: 2,800 (unchanged)
- Nifty Next 50: 600 (unchanged)
The revision increases permissible order size for Bank Nifty futures and options, while limits for other indices remain the same.
Why it matters:
Quantity freeze limits prevent erroneous or abnormally large trades, reducing the risk of “fat finger” errors and ensuring smoother market operations.
NSE has advised all trading members to update their systems with revised contract details, available on the exchange’s extranet and official website.
All index derivative trades will adhere to the new limits from September 1.
