NHAI’s ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ rule, aimed at discouraging the use of a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to one vehicle, has been implemented as of Monday, according to a senior official.
The compliance deadline for NHAI’s ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative was extended to the end of March due to issues faced by Paytm FASTag users.
“From today (April 1), multiple FASTags won’t function… Individuals with multiple FASTags for a single vehicle will no longer be able to utilize all of them,” the official informed PTI.
NHAI introduced the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative to enhance the efficiency of the electronic toll collection system and ensure seamless movement at toll plazas, aiming to discourage the misuse of FASTags.
Last month, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) advised both customers and merchants of Paytm Payments Bank Ltd (PPBL) to transition their accounts to other banks by March 15.
FASTag, operated by NHAI, is an electronic toll collection system in India that has significantly transformed toll payment processes with its widespread adoption and usage by over 8 crore users, representing a penetration rate of about 98 percent.
Utilizing Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, FASTag enables toll payments directly from linked prepaid or savings accounts, streamlining toll transactions for commuters and toll operators.
