Bengaluru-based healthcare major Narayana Hrudayalaya Ltd, which operates hospitals under the Narayana Health brand, announced that it will acquire UK-based Practice Plus Group Hospitals Ltd for GBP 188.78 million (over ₹2,200 crore), marking a significant step in its international growth strategy.
According to a regulatory filing, the deal involves the acquisition of 100% equity shares of Practice Plus Group Hospitals through a cash transaction. The shares will be purchased by Narayana Hrudayalaya UK Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Health City Cayman Islands Ltd, which in turn is a subsidiary of Narayana Hrudayalaya.
“The total consideration for the acquisition is GBP 188.78 million for 100% of the equity stake, comprising 60,001 shares with a face value of GBP 0.02 each, priced at GBP 3,146.29 per share,” the company stated in its BSE filing.
About Practice Plus Group Hospitals
Practice Plus Group Hospitals operates seven hospitals, three surgical centres, two urgent treatment centres, three musculoskeletal and diagnostic centres, and one ophthalmology centre, with a total capacity of 330 beds. The completion of the transaction is expected within six business days of signing, subject to mutual agreement.
Strategic Rationale
Commenting on the acquisition, Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, Founder and Chairman of Narayana Health, said:
“Like Narayana Health, Practice Plus Group recognised that most patients struggle to access healthcare, with only a few able to afford expensive private treatment. Both organisations share a mission to offer affordable, high-quality healthcare to all.”
The acquisition marks Narayana Health’s entry into the UK healthcare market, expanding its global presence. Practice Plus Group operates across 12 hospitals and surgical centres in the UK, with a strong focus on orthopaedics, ophthalmology, and general surgery.
The company said the move positions Narayana Health among the top three healthcare providers in India by revenue, while enhancing its international footprint.
Integration and Future Plans
Practice Plus Group CEO Jim Easton praised the partnership, saying:
“Dr. Shetty and Narayana Health have an enviable reputation for high-quality, efficient healthcare with a human touch. With their expertise and commitment, we can achieve even greater impact together.”
Narayana Health said the integration will allow it to leverage technology-driven efficiencies, strengthen operational excellence, and deliver long-term value to patients and stakeholders worldwide.
