The inauguration of the 17-km Duhai-Modi Nagar North section marks the operationalization of the Namo Bharat train on a total of 34 km of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor. This new section, stretching from Sahibabad to Modi Nagar North, includes eight stations and was remotely flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Kolkata.
The extension comprises three stations: Murad Nagar, Modi Nagar South, and Modi Nagar North. Once completed, the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor, covering 82 km in total, is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Delhi and Meerut to less than an hour.
During the inauguration event, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri highlighted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the rapid development of this corridor has been possible. He emphasized the high quality of work done on the RRTS and projected it to become the second largest metro system in the country upon its completion.
According to the NCRTC, various amenities and facilities have been completed at the Murad Nagar Station, including the Automatic Fare Collection System, Platform Screen Door installation, CCTV setup, Customer Service Centre, Ticketing Counter, and construction of railings and washrooms. Additionally, escalators and lifts have been installed for passenger convenience, with final touches being given to roof sealing, painting, and lighting.
The Murad Nagar Station has also been integrated with the Murad Nagar Bus Stand for seamless multimodal transportation. Furthermore, two stations, Modi Nagar South and Modi Nagar North, have been strategically established in Modi Nagar to address the chronic traffic congestion issues faced by the area.
With these developments, the Namo Bharat train now extends its coverage beyond the initial operational ‘priority section’ of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor. Notably, the RRTS is designed to operate at a speed of 160 kmph, offering a swift and efficient mode of transportation between key urban centers.
