With just two days left before the December 31 deadline for filing companies’ annual returns, persistent technical glitches on the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) portal have triggered panic among professionals and company filers, leading to widespread calls for an immediate deadline extension.
Over the weekend, hundreds of users took to X (formerly Twitter) reporting frequent crashes, session timeouts, and complete inaccessibility of the portal. The hashtag #ExtendDueDateImmediately began trending as filers warned of potential statutory non-compliance due to system failures beyond their control.
The pressure has intensified as December 31 also marks the deadline for GSTR-9, GSTR-9C, and revised and belated income tax returns, effectively converging three major compliance requirements on a single day.
Professionals have also flagged ongoing stability issues following MCA’s transition to the V3 portal, alleging filings are only possible during late-night or early-morning hours due to load constraints.
As of Monday evening, the MCA had issued no official clarification or extension notice, leaving filers anxious about penalties and additional regulatory scrutiny arising from delayed submissions caused by technical issues.
