Maruti Suzuki India Limited has introduced the latest iteration of the Swift, aiming to bolster its presence in the superhatch segment. Priced starting from Rs 6.49 lakh (ex-showroom India), the fourth-generation Epic New Swift will hit the Indian market on May 9, 2024, challenging competitors like the Hyundai Grand i20. Deliveries are slated to commence from June this year.
Pre-bookings for the new Swift are currently open at Maruti Suzuki dealerships nationwide, requiring a token amount of Rs 11,000. The automaker has already secured bookings for 10,000 units, with an additional 30,000 earmarked for export.
Maruti Suzuki has also introduced a monthly subscription option for the car, priced at Rs 17,436.
During the unveiling of the all-new Swift, Hisashi Takeuchi, MD & CEO of MSIL, revealed that the company has invested Rs 1,450 crore in developing the new model. Takeuchi emphasized India’s significance as the largest market for the Swift, with 3 million out of a total 6 million Swifts worldwide.
Highlighting the importance of the hatchback segment in India, Takeuchi noted that it accounts for about 28% of total passenger vehicle sales, with premium hatchbacks contributing nearly 60% of this figure.
The new Swift is equipped with an all-new 1.2-liter Z-Series engine, delivering enhanced fuel efficiency, according to Takeuchi. Safety features include six airbags and seat belts for all occupants.
Takeuchi expressed the company’s vision for the Epic New Swift, aiming to build upon its strong legacy and redefine the joy of mobility for both Swift enthusiasts and driving enthusiasts alike.
