Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate two major national highway projects worth nearly ₹11,000 crore in Delhi’s Rohini area on Sunday, aimed at easing congestion and improving connectivity in the capital and adjoining regions.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the projects — the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) — form part of a larger plan to decongest Delhi.
The 10.1 km Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway, developed at a cost of around ₹5,360 crore, will provide multi-modal connectivity to Yashobhoomi, DMRC’s Blue and Orange lines, the upcoming Bijwasan railway station, and the Dwarka cluster bus depot. It includes a 5.9 km stretch from Shiv Murti intersection to Dwarka Sector-21 and a 4.2 km section up to the Delhi-Haryana border, ensuring direct access to UER-II. The Haryana section of the Expressway, spanning 19 km, was inaugurated in March 2024.
Additionally, the Prime Minister will dedicate the Alipur–Dichaon Kalan stretch of UER-II and new links to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat, constructed at a cost of around ₹5,580 crore.
The new corridors are expected to significantly cut travel time, ease traffic pressure on Delhi’s inner and outer Ring Roads, and decongest key choke points such as Mukarba Chowk, Dhaula Kuan, and NH-09. They will also enhance industrial connectivity and streamline goods movement across the NCR.
