Swedish home furnishing brand IKEA has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rhenus, a global logistics firm, to establish a large warehouse facility near Gurugram, aimed at enhancing the home delivery experience for its customers in the Delhi-NCR region.
The warehouse, spanning 1.5 lakh square feet, will be situated in Farrukhnagar near Gurugram and will serve both IKEA’s e-commerce and offline businesses. Capable of storing and fulfilling over 7,000 products, the facility is expected to go live early next year, according to Saiba Suri, Country Customer Fulfilment Manager at IKEA India.
Vivek Arya, Regional CEO of Rhenus India, highlighted that the new warehousing project in India represents a significant step toward a more inclusive and diverse global presence.
The facility boasts excellent connectivity with other parts of Delhi-NCR through a robust rail and road network, including expressways. Arya also noted that the warehouse shed is ready, and fit-outs will commence soon.
IKEA and Rhenus have nurtured a longstanding partnership since 1988, spanning over four decades and witnessing significant milestones in logistics and home delivery services across various countries in Europe, including Germany, Poland, Italy, and Bulgaria.
With Delhi, Noida, and Gurgaon experiencing a surge in real estate developments, there has been a corresponding increase in demand for home furnishings. In response to this trend, IKEA plans to launch its omni-channel presence in the region by mid-2025, catering to customers across Delhi NCR and surrounding markets.
IKEA India, a part of the Ingka Group, inaugurated its first retail store in Hyderabad in August 2018. Currently, three large-format IKEA stores are operational in Hyderabad, Navi Mumbai, and Bengaluru, along with two city stores in Mumbai. Additionally, IKEA is present online in Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Gujarat, and Bengaluru.
