Heavy rain has continued to disrupt life in Himachal Pradesh, forcing the closure of schools and colleges in four districts and blocking hundreds of roads, including two national highways. The local meteorological office has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain in several districts until August 30.
Schools and Colleges Closed
Education institutes, except residential ones, have been shut in Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Una, and Solan districts following the weather warning.
Roads and Highways Blocked
According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC):
- 484 roads are closed across the state.
- 245 roads are blocked in Mandi district.
- 102 roads remain shut in Kullu district.
- National Highway 154A (Chamba–Pathankot) and NH-305 (Aut–Sainj) are among those closed.
Power and Water Supply Hit
- 941 power transformers disrupted.
- 95 water supply schemes affected.
Casualties and Damage Since Monsoon Onset
From June 20 to August 24 (2025 monsoon period):
- 155 deaths reported in rain-related incidents.
- 37 people missing.
- 77 flash floods, 40 cloudbursts, and 79 major landslides recorded.
- Estimated losses: ₹2,348 crore.
Outlook
Officials have urged residents to remain cautious as moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in 2–7 districts till August 30, with the risk of further landslides and flash floods.
