As part of its vision to establish Gujarat as India’s semiconductor hub, the state government has assigned 188 acres of land to Tata Group and CG Power.
Around 160 acres in Dholera have been earmarked for Tata Group’s ambitious plan to construct the nation’s first mega semiconductor fabrication plant, requiring an estimated investment of Rs 91,000 crore.
CG Power, venturing into a Rs 7,600-crore ATMP plant, has been granted 28 acres in Sanand, according to a Business Standard report. The groundbreaking ceremony for both projects is slated for March 13 and is expected to witness the participation of senior politicians and government officials.
Tata Electronics, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Sons, recently announced a collaboration with Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) to establish India’s inaugural AI-enabled semiconductor fabrication facility, dubbed ‘fab’, in Dholera. Anticipated to generate over 20,000 direct and indirect skill-based jobs, the semiconductor fab will boast a manufacturing capacity of up to 50,000 wafers per month.
The Dholera facility will leverage advanced factory automation, employing data analytics and machine learning to enhance efficiency. It aims to produce chips for diverse applications including power management IC, display drivers, microcontrollers (MCU), and high-performance computing logic, catering to sectors such as automotive, computing, wireless communication, and artificial intelligence.
Another significant player in Gujarat’s semiconductor landscape is CG Power and Industrial Solutions, a Murugappa Group entity. The company has inked an agreement with Renesas and Stars Microelectronics to establish an outsourced semiconductor assembly and testing facility in Sanand, covering a wide range of products serving various industries.
These ventures supplement the establishment of a Rs 22,516-crore chip assembly plant by the US-based memory chip maker Micron in Sanand, highlighting Gujarat’s burgeoning presence in the semiconductor sector.
