The government has extended the deadline for updating Aadhaar details without any fees from June 14, 2024, to September 14, 2024, according to the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) website.
Aadhaar, a 12-digit unique identification number based on biometric and demographic data, is crucial for services requiring Aadhaar OTP authentication. It helps prevent duplicate and fraudulent identities by ensuring each resident has a unique number linked to their biometrics.
UIDAI advises residents whose Aadhaar was issued over 10 years ago and hasn’t been updated to submit proof of identity and address documents to validate and enhance their demographic information, ensuring better service delivery and authentication success.
To update Aadhaar details online:
- Visit the official UIDAI website: https://uidai.gov.in/
- Log in using your Aadhaar number and OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
- Verify your identity and address details displayed.
- If corrections are needed, select the appropriate documents (identity and address) from the drop-down menu and upload them (files should be in JPEG, PNG, or PDF format and under 2 MB).
- Review and submit your request after providing consent.
Note that biometric information such as iris scans, fingerprints, and facial photographs cannot be updated online. Changes to date of birth and gender details are limited to one update each.
For offline updates, download the Aadhaar enrolment form from the UIDAI website, fill it out, and submit it along with the necessary documents at your nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre or Aadhaar Sewa Kendra. Biometric information will be collected, and an acknowledgment slip with the Update Request Number (URN) will be issued for tracking the status of your update.
Ensure your Aadhaar information is current before the new deadline to avoid inconvenience in accessing services requiring Aadhaar authentication.
