The government-backed Bharat Taxi app is set for its official launch by the end of January 2026 in Delhi and several other Indian cities, following a strong response during its pilot phase, a senior official from the Ministry of Cooperation told PTI.
Pankaj Kumar Bansal, Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Cooperation, said the app witnessed encouraging traction during its soft launch. “We have received a very good response for the Bharat Taxi service during the soft launch. The official launch will be done by month-end,” he said.
Strong Response During Pilot Phase
The Bharat Taxi app was introduced on a pilot basis in Delhi on December 2, 2025. Since then, it has been recording an average of around 5,500 rides per day, including nearly 4,000 airport rides and about 1,500 trips from other locations across cab, auto and bike categories.
According to officials, more than 1.4 lakh drivers have already registered on the platform, highlighting strong interest from driver partners even before the full-scale rollout.
What Is Bharat Taxi?
Bharat Taxi is promoted by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited, a cooperative backed by eight major cooperative and financial institutions—NCDC, IFFCO, AMUL, KRIBHCO, NAFED, NABARD, NDDB and NCEL. The Ministry of Cooperation is the chief promoter, and the cooperative’s board also includes two elected driver representatives.
The app was first announced by Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah in March 2024 with the objective of reducing drivers’ dependence on private cab aggregators and making them key stakeholders in the platform.
Zero Commission, No Surge Pricing
Unlike private ride-hailing platforms such as Ola and Uber that typically charge 20–30% commission, Bharat Taxi will not deduct any commission from drivers. Instead, drivers will be entitled to benefits such as annual dividends, a share in cooperative profits, and insurance coverage.
The app will also eliminate surge pricing, ensuring uniform and transparent fares regardless of peak demand periods. Additional features include live location tracking, verified drivers, ride-sharing details with family or friends, and integration with metro and other transit services.
To enhance safety, Bharat Taxi has also tied up with the Delhi Police to provide an added security framework for both riders and drivers.
Aiming to Create Jobs and Boost Rural Prosperity
The platform offers multiple ride options, including two-wheelers, auto-rickshaws, taxis and four-wheelers. The government has positioned Bharat Taxi as a tool for employment generation and inclusive growth, especially for drivers from semi-urban and rural areas.
With its cooperative ownership model and driver-first approach, Bharat Taxi is expected to emerge as a strong alternative in India’s competitive ride-hailing market.
