Foxconn, the Taiwanese electronics manufacturing giant and Apple’s largest iPhone producer, has officially started small-scale production of the iPhone 17 at its Bengaluru facility — the company’s second-largest plant outside China. This comes in addition to ongoing production at its Chennai unit, according to a PTI report citing industry sources.
The Bengaluru plant, established with an investment of nearly ₹25,000 crore, had earlier faced delays due to Chinese engineers returning home. However, Foxconn has now filled the expertise gap by bringing in specialists from Taiwan and other countries.
Apple’s India expansion comes as the tech giant pushes to scale production to 60 million iPhones in 2025, up from 35–40 million units in 2024-25. In FY25, Apple assembled 60% more iPhones in India, worth nearly $22 billion. CEO Tim Cook also confirmed that a majority of iPhones sold in the US in June 2025 were made in India.
Data from IDC and S&P Global shows Apple exported 3.1 million iPhones from India in March 2025, while domestic supplies rose 21.5% YoY to 5.9 million units in the first half of the year. Despite Apple’s surge, Vivo led India’s smartphone market in April–June 2025 with a 19% share.
