Domestic airlines recorded a total of 133.68 lakh passengers in March, marking a nearly 3.7 percent increase compared to the same period last year, according to official data released on Monday.
In March 2023, domestic air traffic stood at 128.93 lakh, while in February this year, it was 126.48 lakh.
Regarding On-Time Performance (OTP), Akasa Air led the list with 84.5 percent, followed by AIX Connect (83 percent), IndiGo (81.3 percent), Vistara (76.6 percent), Air India (71.9 percent), and SpiceJet (63.6 percent). Alliance Air recorded the lowest OTP at 48.6 percent. These figures were released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
The OTP of scheduled domestic airlines is calculated for four metro airports: Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai.
IndiGo’s market share rose to 60.5 percent in March, while Air India’s increased to 13.1 percent. Vistara’s market share dropped to 9.6 percent, while SpiceJet’s slightly increased to 5.3 percent.
However, Akasa Air’s market share saw a slight decline to 4.4 percent, and AIX Connect’s decreased to 5.8 percent.
In March, flight delays affected more than 2 lakh passengers, while cancellations impacted 23,675 passengers. Additionally, 943 passengers were denied boarding.
The regulator stated, “Passengers carried by domestic airlines during January-March 2024 were 391.46 lakhs as against 375.04 lakhs during the corresponding period of the previous year, thereby registering an annual growth of 4.38 percent and monthly growth of 3.68 percent.”
