DII and FII Activity
For the first time since July 4, 2025, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) turned net sellers, offloading ₹329 crore in Indian equities. Similarly, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs/FPIs) were net sellers, offloading ₹1,623 crore on Friday, August 22, 2025.
During the trading session:
- FIIs: Bought ₹10,179 crore, sold ₹11,802 crore
- DIIs: Bought ₹10,106 crore, sold ₹10,436 crore
For 2025 so far:
- FIIs: Net sellers of ₹1.88 lakh crore
- DIIs: Net buyers of ₹4.74 lakh crore
Market Performance
Indian benchmark indices ended lower, ending a six-day winning streak:
- BSE Sensex: Down ~694 points (0.85%) to 81,306.85
- NSE Nifty 50: Down ~214 points (0.85%) to 24,870.10
The broad-based decline came amid caution ahead of Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell’s Jackson Hole speech, adding uncertainty to global markets.
Sector-Wise Performance
- Decliners: IT and financials led losses (0.6–0.9%), with FMCG, metals, realty, oil & gas, PSU banks, and private banks also down 0.5–1%
- Gainers: Media stocks rose ~1% (Zee Entertainment +5%), and pharma gained ~0.4% due to defensive demand
- Blue-Chip Movers: Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, Bharat Electronics, Bharti Airtel, and Titan Company ended higher
- Laggards: Asian Paints, Grasim Industries, Adani Enterprises, Hero MotoCorp, and UltraTech Cement
