UGC Chairman Jagadesh Kumar indicated that the schedule for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET)-UG might undergo alterations depending on the timetable of the Lok Sabha elections. The National Testing Agency (NTA) recently announced that the exam would take place from May 15 to 31, with the results slated for release on June 30.
As India prepares for the general elections to select its 18th Lok Sabha, the specific dates for the polls are anticipated to be disclosed this month. Kumar informed PTI on Sunday, “The dates provided by the NTA are tentative. Once the election dates are confirmed, the NTA will determine the final schedule for CUET-UG. The tentative commencement date is set for May 15.”
The application process for CUET-UG commenced on Tuesday and is scheduled to conclude on March 26. Introduced in 2022, CUET-UG offers a unified opportunity for students aspiring for admission to any of the central universities or other participating institutions nationwide, including state, deemed, and private universities.
In a notable shift, the NTA has announced a hybrid mode for conducting the exam, encompassing both Computer Based Test (CBT) for select subjects and pen-and-paper mode for others. Officials stated that subjects with a substantial number of registrations would utilize the pen-and-paper mode, employing optical mark recognition (OMR) format, while the CBT format would persist for other subjects.
Last year, the testing agency received around 14.9 lakh registrations for CUET-UG.
