On April 5, the Congress party unveiled its manifesto titled “Nyay Patra” for the Lok Sabha elections 2024. One of the key promises outlined in the manifesto is the “Mahalaxmi Scheme,” aimed at alleviating poverty by providing ₹1 lakh per year to the underprivileged.
According to the manifesto, the funds will be directly transferred to the bank account of the eldest woman in the household. In the event that the eldest woman is not present, the funds will be transferred to the oldest member of the family.
Additionally, the manifesto states that the implementation of the scheme will occur gradually and will be subject to yearly reviews to evaluate its impact on poverty alleviation and the number of families benefiting from it.
