Coal India Ltd achieved a historic production milestone of 703.91 million tonnes (MT) during the current fiscal year until March 7, surpassing the previous fiscal year’s output of 703.20 MT, as announced by the Coal Ministry on Friday. The ministry highlighted the implementation of various key measures aimed at enhancing production, resulting in Coal India maintaining a substantial stock of 72.70 MT as of March 7, 2024.
According to a ministry release, Coal India Limited (CIL) surpassed last year’s production by an impressive margin of 26 days, achieving the record production figure of 703.91 million tonnes of coal up to March 7, 2024. The adoption of the Mine Developer and Operator model, along with the mechanization and modernization of CIL mines, both Underground and Opencast, along with undertaking new projects and expanding existing ones, contributed significantly to boosting coal production.
Furthermore, the domestic coal sector exhibited notable growth, registering a 10.2 percent increase in January, according to a separate release by the ministry. The index of the coal industry reached 218.9 points during January, compared to 198.6 points in the corresponding period of the previous year, as per the Index of Eight Core Industries (ICI) (Base Year 2011-12) released by the Ministry of Commerce & Industries.
The ministry emphasized that the coal industry has consistently demonstrated strong performance, maintaining sustained double-digit growth over the past seven months and significantly outpacing the overall growth of the eight core industries in the last two financial years.
