Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will on Monday digitally transfer ₹3,200 crore in crop insurance claim amounts under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) to 30 lakh farmer beneficiaries. The event will be held in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, and will be attended by Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Union Minister of State for Agriculture Bhagirath Choudhary, and Rajasthan Agriculture Minister Kirodi Lal Meena.
According to the official statement, the distribution will include:
- ₹1,156 crore to farmers in Madhya Pradesh
- ₹1,121 crore to 7 lakh farmers in Rajasthan
- ₹150 crore to farmers in Chhattisgarh
- ₹773 crore to farmers in other states
Chouhan stated that the Centre has introduced a simplified claim settlement system to ensure faster payouts. Claims can now be paid proportionately based on the central subsidy alone, without waiting for the state’s premium contribution.
From the Kharif 2025 season, a 12% penalty will apply if state governments delay their subsidy contribution. Similarly, if insurance companies delay payments, they must compensate farmers with a 12% interest penalty.
Since its launch in 2016, PMFBY has disbursed claims worth ₹1.83 lakh crore, while farmers have paid only ₹35,864 crore in premiums — an average claim payout of over five times the premium paid.
To enhance efficiency and transparency, several technological tools have been introduced, including YES-TECH, WINDS Portal, AIDE Mobile App, Krishi Rakshak Portal, and Helpline Number 14447. These systems have improved weather data accuracy, claim settlement speed, and village-level registration facilities.
