BJP Candidate List 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is poised to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the Varanasi seat in Uttar Pradesh, a constituency he currently represents in the Lower House of Parliament.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unveiled its first list of 195 candidates for the Lok Sabha elections in the national capital on March 2. This initial list includes prominent figures such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will seek reelection from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who will contest from Gandhinagar in Gujarat.
Comprising names of 34 Union Ministers and Ministers of State, the list was disclosed days before the Election Commission of India (ECI) is expected to announce the dates for the Lok Sabha polls, slated for April-May. The BJP has set a target of securing over 370 seats for the party and over 400 for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the upcoming elections.
The announcement was made by BJP National Vice President Jay Panda and BJP National General Secretary Vinod Tawde.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, conducted in seven phases from April 11 to May 19, the BJP, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, secured a resounding victory with 303 seats out of the 543-member House.
Similarly, in 2019, the BJP had unveiled the names of 184 candidates on March 21, prior to the announcement of election dates. The anticipation surrounding the release of the BJP’s candidate list arose following an extensive meeting of the party’s Central Election Committee (CEC) earlier in the week. Earlier in the day, two sitting MPs, Gautam Gambhir from East Delhi and Jayant Sinha from Hazaribagh, had opted out of the Lok Sabha polls.
