On March 29, the Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP ) lodged a formal complaint with the Election Commission (EC), alleging that Yathindra Siddaramaiah, son of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by using derogatory language to target Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
The state BJP unit accused Yathindra Siddaramaiah of making inappropriate remarks against the leaders during a speech in Hanur town of Chamarajanagara district on March 28. They claimed that such statements were in violation of the MCC guidelines set by the EC.
In the complaint addressed to the poll body, the BJP highlighted Yathindra’s alleged comments, including referring to Home Minister Amit Shah as a “goonda” and “rowdy,” and accusing him of past criminal charges. They asserted that these statements constituted a personal attack on the Prime Minister and the Home Minister.
State BJP President B Y Vijayendra condemned Yathindra’s remarks, emphasizing that as a former legislator and the son of the Chief Minister, it was unacceptable for him to make such statements. He demanded an apology from Yathindra Siddaramaiah.
The Model Code of Conduct remains in effect until the announcement of election results and serves as a regulatory framework issued by the Election Commission to govern the behavior of political parties and candidates during the electoral process. It encompasses various aspects such as speeches, conduct during polling, activities at polling booths, manifesto content, and general conduct.
