To address Bengaluru’s most severe water crisis to date, the Bengaluru Water Supply Board is strategizing to partner with the Indian Institute of Science (IISC) to extract water from 185 lake beds across the city using innovative technology, aiming to meet the overwhelming water demand.
According to Ram Prasath Manohar, chairman of the Bengaluru Water Supply Board, the Indian Institute of Science has initiated a pilot project to recycle water near lake beds using cutting-edge technology. In an interview with NDTV, he stated that they are considering collaborating with IISC experts to implement scientific and innovative approaches. By employing these technologies, it is projected that Bengaluru’s 185 lake beds could yield an additional 20-30 MLD of water, effectively mitigating the water scarcity gap.
Furthermore, Manohar discussed the board’s plans to engage with Bengaluru’s resident welfare associations (RWA) to utilize recycled water as part of the strategy to address the water crisis.
