Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, currently incarcerated in Tihar jail, will conduct regular meetings with two ministers each week to oversee the progress of work in their respective departments, as per an announcement by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21, Kejriwal remains in judicial custody. AAP’s Rajya Sabha member Sandeep Pathak and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann visited Kejriwal in Tihar jail on April 15.
Pathak, also the party’s National General Secretary (Organization), shared Kejriwal’s plan to review departmental functioning. “Starting next week, the chief minister will summon two ministers to jail every week to evaluate their departments’ work and provide guidance,” Pathak stated.
Tihar officials confirmed that Kejriwal added Ministers Atishi, Kailash Gahlot, and Saurabh Bharadwaj to the list of permitted visitors, allowing them to meet him twice a week.
Furthermore, Kejriwal instructed Pathak to relay a message to party MLAs, urging them to engage in door-to-door interactions with constituents to address their concerns. “MLAs must strive to resolve any issues faced by the people. Kejriwal emphasized that MLAs should compensate for his absence by doubling their efforts,” Pathak remarked.
On April 15, the Supreme Court declined interim relief to Kejriwal in his plea challenging his arrest in a money-laundering case linked to an alleged excise policy scam. Meanwhile, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court extended Kejriwal’s judicial custody until April 23 in the same case.
