Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal accused the BJP of adopting a “model of vinash” or destruction while his AAP government in Delhi pursued a model of “vikas” or development. He made these remarks during a session in the Delhi Assembly to discuss the recently tabled budget for 2024-25.
Kejriwal highlighted the positive reception of the budget, claiming that many believed the AAP-Congress alliance would sweep all seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi. He criticized the BJP for allegedly targeting opposition parties and attempting to topple his government by orchestrating his arrest.
Regarding the eight summons issued to him, Kejriwal sarcastically pledged to build eight new schools in response. He accused the BJP of plotting to halt his government’s free electricity scheme and degrade public services.
The chief minister praised the budget’s initiatives, including the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana, which provides Rs 1,000 per month to eligible women in families. He also expressed hope that his jailed colleague, Manish Sisodia, would present the budget in the Assembly next year.
Kejriwal criticized the BJP’s approach to governance since 2014, accusing them of targeting opposition parties and stalling their initiatives. He alleged that the BJP’s objective was to eliminate opposition voices and undermine democracy.
Kejriwal claimed that the BJP was threatened by the AAP’s rapid growth and had devised plans to arrest him and dismantle his government. He highlighted his government’s achievements in education and healthcare, contrasting them with the BJP’s alleged efforts to disrupt governance in Delhi.
Lastly, Kejriwal emphasized his commitment to the people of Delhi and mocked the BJP’s opposition to his government’s welfare schemes. He expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him by the people of Delhi and speculated on the spiritual connection behind it.
