All government and private schools in Jammu division will remain closed on Monday, September 1, due to incessant rain and landslides in hilly areas, the Directorate of School Education announced.
The schools in the region had already been closed earlier this week as a precautionary measure following weather advisories.
“Keeping in view the continuous rainfall and landslides in the hilly areas, and to ensure the safety of students and staff, it is hereby ordered that all government and private schools across Jammu division shall continue to remain closed on 01-09-2025 (Monday),” said Naseem Javaid Chowdhary, Director School Education, Jammu, in an official order.
🔹 Impact of Monsoon in the Region
- More than 130 people, mostly pilgrims, have died since August 14 due to cloudbursts, landslides, and flash floods in Kishtwar, Kathua, Reasi, and Ramban districts.
- Over 120 people were injured, while 33 remain untraced.
- Record rainfall on August 26–27 triggered flash floods in low-lying areas, causing widespread damage to public and private properties.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation, urging residents to remain cautious as the monsoon fury continues across Jammu and Kashmir.
