An official stated on Sunday that Air India Express is gradually reinstating its flights and working towards stabilizing its network. The cabin crew union highlighted that all previously sick members have resumed duty.
Despite this progress, the airline, owned by the Tata Group and operating approximately 380 daily services, had to cancel more than 20 flights on Sunday. The official expects full normalcy to be achieved by Tuesday morning.
While Air India Express has not officially commented, a section of the cabin crew went on strike to protest alleged mismanagement, resulting in numerous flight cancellations since Tuesday night. The strike concluded on Thursday following a conciliation meeting facilitated by the chief labour commissioner in New Delhi, where termination letters for 25 cabin crew were rescinded.
According to a statement released by the union on Sunday, all sick cabin crew members have returned to duty by May 11, 2024. However, a scheduling software glitch continues to falsely indicate staff sickness. The official reassured that flight operations are gradually resuming, with network stabilization anticipated by Tuesday morning.
