Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders are set to stage a fasting dharna at Jantar Mantar on April 7 in protest against the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, announced party leader Gopal Rai on Wednesday.
Rai, who also serves as a cabinet minister in the Kejriwal government, made the announcement during a press conference, urging supporters to join in a nationwide fast against the detention of the party’s national convener.
Encouraging participation, Rai stated, “If you oppose the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister, you can observe a fast on April 7. You can conduct the collective fast anywhere – at home, in your city, anywhere.”
Highlighting the motive behind the arrests, Rai alleged that the party’s top leadership was targeted with the intention of undermining AAP. He further outlined plans for the April 7 event, stating, “Delhi government ministers, AAP MPs, MLAs, councillors, and office-bearers will observe a fast at Jantar Mantar. This will be an open event, and student organizations, farmer bodies, and traders are welcome to participate.”
Kejriwal was apprehended last month by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a money laundering case linked to the excise policy. He has been remanded to judicial custody until April 15.
