The central government has announced “Naya Bharat” as the theme for the 79th Independence Day on August 15, 2025, symbolising India’s vision of building a prosperous, secure, and self-reliant nation, in line with the goal of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist the tricolour at the historic Red Fort and address the nation. This year, the Indian Air Force (IAF) is the coordinating service for the national event, which will feature a ceremonial Guard of Honour, a 21-gun salute, and a special flypast carrying both the national flag and the Operation Sindoor flag.
Upon arrival, PM Modi will be received by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, MoS Defence Sanjay Seth, and Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. He will then be introduced to Lieutenant General Bhavnish Kumar, GOC Delhi Area, and escorted to the Saluting Base.
The Guard of Honour, led by Wing Commander AS Sekhon, will include 96 personnel from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Delhi Police. Flying Officer Rashika Sharma will assist the PM in hoisting the flag, synchronised with the 21-gun salute by the 1721 Field Battery using indigenous 105mm Light Field Guns.
Following the national anthem and a shower of flower petals, PM Modi will deliver his Independence Day address. 2,500 NCC cadets and ‘My Bharat’ volunteers will form the ‘Naya Bharat’ logo at Gyanpath.
For the first time, patriotic band performances will take place across 140 locations nationwide on the evening of Independence Day, featuring the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, paramilitary forces, and police bands.
This year’s celebrations will host around 5,000 special guests from diverse walks of life, along with 1,500 participants in traditional attire from various states and union territories.
