In Kota news, a 16-year-old boy from Bihar has tragically taken his own life in Rajasthan’s Kota, marking the sixth suicide in the city since the start of 2024. The boy, identified as Abhishek Mandal, had been residing in Kota to prepare for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main.
Abhishek left behind a suicide note addressed to his father, expressing his inability to crack the JEE. The note, recovered from his room, stated, “Papa, mere se JEE nahi ho payega. Sorry, I quit.” (Papa, I won’t be able to clear JEE. Sorry, I quit), as reported by PTI.
Abhishek Mandal consumed celphos poison in his paying guest accommodation, where he was found deceased. The police discovered a vial of the poison in his room. Originally from Bhagalpur, Bihar, Abhishek had been residing in Kota since the previous year to prepare for JEE Mains.
His death is the sixth such incident in Kota since the beginning of 2024. His body was found on Friday morning in the Vigyan Nagar area of Kota. He was suspected to have passed away late Thursday night, according to Circle Officer DSP Dharmveer Singh.
Abhishek’s family became alarmed after he failed to respond to repeated calls. They contacted the caretaker of his paying guest accommodation in Kota to check on him. When the caretaker looked through the window of Abhishek’s room, he found him unconscious. Abhishek was rushed to a hospital but was declared brought dead.
Records from the coaching institute where Abhishek had been studying indicated that he was scheduled to take the JEE Session-1 exam on January 29 but did not appear for it, as reported by PTI.
The police have placed Abhishek’s body in a mortuary, pending the arrival of his parents from Bihar. A post-mortem will be conducted thereafter.
This incident marks the sixth suicide by a coaching student in Kota since January. In 2023, the number of student suicides in Kota was recorded at 26.
